We are Rotary for busy people in the 21st Century, the simplest thing you can do to be involved is to help a little with one of our eCampaigns.
The Suzy Lamplugh Trust are running National Stalking Awareness Week, commencing on the 16th April. This year our focus is ‘Make #ReportingStalking a strategic priority’. On Monday 16th April they are hosting a half day conference that will look at the best practice in protecting victims of stalking.
“We will also be launching our report Out of Sight, Out of Mind- 2 years on, this report looks at what improvements have been made by police forces in supporting victims of stalking since our original report that we released in 2016.
“We will also be running a social media campaign that will highlight the experiences of stalking victims, including, the importance of commissioning services, the crucial role advocacy plays in protecting victims and lacks of specialist stalking services.”
Please help tweet out the messages about Stalking or share on Facebook, this is a crime we need to build more awareness about and how to report it.
Face 2 Face
We held our first Family Face 2 Face meeting on the 14th April, at Lily and Lime LD (Facebook Link), Central Library, Guildhall Square, Portsmouth. These will be held each month on the second Saturday between 10.00 – 12.00, a great opportunity to meet members of Rotary Social Innovation, enjoy the great food and coffee, whilst exchanging ideas and having some family fun.
Our next Family Face 2 Face will be on Saturday 12th May, where all our members are welcome. We hope to be helping a Portsmouth charity raise funds with family involvement.
Rotary Social Innovation South Wiltshire
We’ve been really excited this week making contact with people joining our new initiative in South Wiltshire. It is amazing the Social Enterprises that are in our communities and the eagerness they have to work in collaboration to help build sustainable communities.
It was great finding more out about Co-Cars over an excellent brunch and coffee at Quench Cafe. Connecting with the Rotary Brand we believe we can really help promote these excellent enterprises, while we develop a network of people to develop a new kind of Rotary offer for the 21st Century.
The Baby Award
It was a shock on Wednesday evening at the Rotary District 1110, Group 1 meeting in Gillingham, for President Janice to be presented with the ‘Baby Trophy’ from the Rotary Club of Parley in Dorset, which was chartered in 2012. We hold this award until the next Rotary Club is chartered in the District, which we hope will be soon.
DRAGON BOAT RACE
Help with promoting the Portsmouth Rotary Dragon Boat Festival on the 13th May at Lakeside, North Harbour would be appreciated on Twitter, a great day for all the family. We have entered a boat to help raise funds for Toucan Diversity and are still looking for a few more team members to help row the boat.
At the Rotary International in Britain & Ireland conference it was really good to meet Race the Dragon Company based at Eastleigh and we are excited by discussions we are having to develop an innovative approach to community development working with them.
