As we approach the Christmas Festivities we are starting to prepare for 2018. We were so pleased last week that our Rotary Social Innovation Interact Club at The Sholing Technology College got underway. The young people invited to the initial meeting have been challenged to find two projects, one in their local community and the other linked internationally. Do visit their page Interact at TSTC and see the projects they are initially exploring, the team helping to support the Club thought the next meeting would be in the New Year, the new interactors had different ideas to this and will meet again on Wednesday 13th December, so they can really get going next term.
Let’s Hear in Portsmouth
We are still looking for volunteers to help with this project, either people who are wearers of hearing aids or non-hearing aid wearers. Training for Loop Checking is to happen in the first week of January so please let us know if you can help. The commitment required is a morning or afternoon a month.
We will be continuing to support the Portsmouth Dementia Action Alliance and in particular helping Portsmouth Wards to become Dementia Friendly Communities. The work in PO6 will be launched on 16th January 2018 at the North Harbour Tescos
Face 2 Face Meetings – Do try to get to one or two of our Face 2 Face meetings during the coming year a chance to get to know each other, exchange ideas and learn something new.
Theatre Innovation – A new group getting together in the New Year to explore this exciting area of work.
Any Computer Bits and Pieces to help the PALS Society?
This is a charity we would like to support as they are creating a Social Firm to help young people with Alternative Lifestyles gain employment in IT Products & Services. Currently they are looking for old computer parts to upcycle that can be dropped off in a box at Tesco’s in Fareham.
In the New Year we will be looking to request Rotary International to Charter Rotary Social Innovation South East Hampshire as a new member of their network.
Looking forward next year to continuing this new flexible and innovative approach to Rotary, whilst developing new opportunities for you to:
- help with the Social Model of disability,
- develop young people’s innovation with Design Thinking,
- help build a consumer awareness about Social Enterprise and a market that encourages this sustainable way forward,
- support Rotary’s own charity The Rotary Foundation,
- develop links with other countries to learn more about their social innovation,
- work in partnership with Rotary and community groups to support their efforts in particular communities.
We wish you all a Merry Christmas
and Happy New Year
