Dementia Friendly News
Our continued support of our communities becoming Dementia Friendly is key to our plans and actions as we move forward. Many of our members are wanting to become Dementia Friends and understand what simple actions they can do to help. At our last meeting of our South Wiltshire group our member Caroline presented a really good Dementia Friends Session. Now we are planning how we can do more work with encouraging the parishes around Amesbury to become Dementia Friendly Communities.
This continues with us holding a Dementia Friends Session at our next South East Hampshire
Face2Face Meet Up on Saturday 13th October 2018 at Lily & Lime LD Cafe, 3rd Floor Central Library, Portsmouth. We also have plans in East Hampshire to help with getting Whitehill & Bordon to become a Dementia Friendly Community and working in partnership with the Rotary Club of Havant helping to develop an action group in Havant. We also continue to work with Dementia Friendly Hampshire and with Remind in Portsmouth to develop new ways of encouraging our communities to make supporting people living with Dementia and their carers a priority, ensuring simple actions are put in place so they feel supported.
Social Enterprise News
We are really pleased to be planning and holding another Unpacking Social Enterprise in partnership with Action Hampshire, The School for Social Entrepreneurs, Lily & Lime LD and others to be announced. On Tuesday 27th November 2018 at Lily & Lime LD Cafe, 3rd Floor Portsmouth Central Library booking forms out soon please help us to promote this event.
The awareness we helped build at our last Unpacking Social Enterprise event, held in Winchester in March, has enabled us to start some pilot work with Rotary in Britain & Ireland, where we are hoping to really help build awareness about Social Enterprise with Rotary Clubs and help to encourage them to Buy Social.
We are also planning one or two other Unpacking Social Enterprises in and around Hampshire, Isle of Wight and in partnership with Rotary District 1200 in Warminster. We have lots of aspirations to build awareness of these enterprises, that will help in building sustainable communities and, in our pipeline plans, is a workshop on sharing good practice around Social Enterprises engaged in Catering; helping to sign post entrepreneurs interested in building a Social Enterprise to relevant support organisations. We ultimately hope to work with others in building a strong market place for these exciting new community business endeavours.
Flexible & Innovative Rotary Spreading
It was with excitement that President Janice attended a meeting to explore the establishment of the new Satellite of Rotary Social Innovation South West Hampshire. With the sad demise of the Rotary Club of New Milton, a meeting was held in Mildford-on-sea where Rotarians wanting to continue, whilst modernising their approach formed the new group. Plans are now in hand to work in parallel with The Rotary Club of New Milton until December, whilst starting to promote the new venture.
Work goes on at a pace in RSI East Hampshireand our Face2Face Meet Up is planned for the evening of the Tuesday 25th September 2018. Chairwoman Charlene of this venture is activity making lots of connections in the area and we already have 10 members.
Don’t forget to support our President Janice and other members of our RSI South Wiltshire Team as they jump for Homeless and Vulnerable Veterans, as part of the Alabaré Skydive go to the Just Giving Page and donate just a little please.
Already mentioned above our RSI South Wiltshire is still growing at a pace, our next Face2Face Meet up is on Monday 1st October 2018 which is to be a social gathering. However lots of plans are in place, including an Indian Meal, lighting the Christmas Tree, painting the new Pantry Partnership premises and helping with the Edventure Project being launched by Quench in Salisbury.
Lots in the Planning
At our last Portsmouth Face2Face Meet Up on Saturday 8th September 2018, we welcomed Trevor into Rotary Social Innovation and, as our new Webmaster, he is building our new website shortly to be launched. We were further inspired by Hung’s talk about his journey since coming to the UK as one of the Vietnam Boat People, his journey without shoes in a boat full of 1000 refugees, to a young man learning a new culture in a strange land, to learning to be a Chinese Chef and eventually own his own business. We hope to help him write a book about his story and recipes, that we can sell to raise funds for The Rotary Foundation.
We hope our Fareham members will support the efforts to bring a new way of interactive shopping in West Street. Member Shane from The Crafty Makery is initiating community involvement in lots of creative ideas in that part of town. Let’s get involved with this exciting community project.
How are your personal actions doing to help reduce unnecessary plastic in our community? It was good to see Portsmouth & Southsea Rotaract Club getting involved in a beach clearance. What more can we do in our Environmental Action Campaign?
From Creative Arts Innovation, building healthy towns to more awareness about hidden disabilities Rotary Social Innovation is engaging with community initiatives to help build sustainable, cohesive and resilient communities, as partners and collaborators to develop Social Action where ever it is needed.
We are still seeking new people to connect with Rotary for busy people in the 21st Century. We understand your time is precious, just giving a little when you do have time really helps your personal wellbeing. Or come and join us in our Family Day out at the Sculpture Park on Saturday 29th September 2018, we want to encourage families to join in with the service and fun as we build our Rotary Social Innovation.
Finally now you can keep in touch with us via LinkedIn, we have a new group on this Social Media platform. Keep in touch with our exciting Rotary for the 21st Century.
